Yeah ok, ok. Las Iguanas is not a pub. But if we’re eating, why not review it? You never know what you might be in the mood for. So, it’s a bit more expensive because it’s restaurant prices and it’s great if you love Mexican and South American food.

Grub’s up – what we had:

The fussy eater ordered: Sizzling grilled chicken fajitas

Las Iguanas fajitas. Grilled chicken with peppers and onions surrounded by folded wraps, vibrant dips and garnish.

The fajitas were sizzling as they got to the table, and as soon as the plate was lifted from the dish the smell of all the spices wafted over the table. It was almost enough to make the vegetarian wish she’d ordered the chicken fajitas too.

The sauces all came in separate pots, apart they were fresh and offered something light alongside the chicken. Although, just to caveat, the fussy eater does not like sour cream so that was shoved toward the veggie, who loves it.

And with all this going on, the chicken was piping hot and tender while the peppers and onions were a little al dente and added a bit of bite. There was a hint of curry flavour that underlined the busy dish, which really elevated it.

The veggie ordered: Nachos to share, black bean and cheese quesadilla with pico salsa

A rectangular plate piled with nachos, a little flag saying 'prepared with care. The tortilla chips are covered in vibrant ingredients.

Nachos are a favourite dish of ours. There’s just something about the crack of the tortilla chip after the softness of the guacamole and salsa that make it the ultimate starter.

Las Iguanas offer extra layers with cheese sauce mixed with slightly sharp sour cream, which both offset the mouth-watering burst of heat from the jalapeños. And with the pickled red onion shredded across it, there was a lot to love.

Moving onto the quesadilla, it’s a tapas dish, which is great if you’ve ordered a large nacho sharer to start. Black bean and cheese is a bit of a classic veggie filling, smokey with melted, stringy cheese there isn’t much to make it stand out from others.

Overall

If you want to treat yourself then definitely give Las Iguanas in Southampton West Quay a go. The staff are very friendly and up for a chat, and the food does take awhile to come out but that’s because it’s all fresh and cooked with a lot of care.
